Do men and women need different skincare routines?
Choose by your skin's needs, your shaving habits and the routine you enjoy. Collection names can guide discovery, while the individual formula deserves the final say.

Men and women can begin with the same skincare foundations: gentle cleansing, moisturizer and sun protection. The most useful differences in a personal routine come from skin type, sensitivity, shaving habits and the concerns you want to address.
The American Academy of Dermatology acknowledges differences between men's and women's skin, while saying the basic elements of an effective skincare plan remain the same. It also emphasizes that every person's skin is different. AAD skincare guidance for men.
That leaves plenty of room to choose a collection you enjoy. It also means the words on the front of a bottle cannot decide whether the formula is a good match for you.
Describe your skin before choosing a shelf
A helpful starting point is what you actually notice. Does your skin feel rough or tight? Does it look shiny through the day? Do some products sting? Are your cheeks comfortable while your forehead feels oily?
Those observations are more useful shopping information than assuming all men need stronger products or all women need richer creams. A collection name cannot reveal how an individual will react to a preservative, fragrance or other ingredient.
Read the full ingredient list and the intended-use information when available. Keep track of products you already tolerate. If you have a known allergy or a recurring skin condition, your clinician's advice matters more than a general routine article.
Keep the shared foundation simple
Start with a gentle cleanser that suits your skin, a comfortable moisturizer and a sunscreen you will use. The AAD recommends a simple approach and notes that an effective product does not have to be expensive. Choosing fewer products can also make a routine easier to afford and maintain. Gentleness applies to how you cleanse, too. Use your fingertips and lukewarm water rather than treating your face as something to scrub clean. A harsh technique can undermine the care you put into choosing the formula. AAD face-washing guidance.
For sun protection, Canadian guidance recommends broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher and following the sunscreen label, including reapplication during exposure. That advice is not restricted to one gender or one skincare collection. Health Canada sunscreen guidance.
Shaving changes the practical routine
A person who shaves frequently may need to pay attention to that step, regardless of gender. The AAD advises softening the skin and hair, using shaving cream or gel, shaving in the direction of hair growth and keeping the razor in good condition. AAD shaving guidance.
If you keep changing your shaving products and your skincare at the same time, it becomes difficult to tell which change affected your comfort. A simple diary can be useful: note the product, when you introduced it and what you noticed. There is no need to photograph every application or turn the routine into a project.
Persistent bumps, irritation or a rash deserve a proper assessment rather than a guess about needing a “men's” or “women's” serum.
What Venus and Mars tell you
Longevitus presents the Venus collection for women and the Mars collection for men. These collections offer different ways to explore the brand's skincare and daily rituals. Review each product's details individually.
The current skincare options include VENUS Renewal GHK-Cu Serum, VENUS Renewal SNAP-8 Serum, MARS Performance GHK-Cu Serum and MARS Performance SNAP-8 Serum, each listed at $79.95 CAD. The collection names do not establish a scientifically necessary gender split, prove that the formulas are identical, or show that they have different clinical effects.
If you are curious about the ingredients, our copper-peptide guide and SNAP-8 evidence guide explain what the research can and cannot answer.
Choose a routine that feels like yours
You might prefer an uncomplicated morning routine, a quiet evening ritual or packaging that suits your space. Those preferences can help you keep a habit. They do not need to be disguised as biology.
Choose the formula and directions that fit your skin, then introduce one optional product at a time. Our serum layering and introduction guide covers the next step. A personal routine becomes more useful when it responds to your skin and your life, rather than asking you to match an assumed profile.
Practical questions
Can I explore the collection aimed at another gender?
A collection name is a way to browse. It does not, on its own, determine personal suitability. Read the individual product's ingredients and directions, consider your known sensitivities and choose on that basis. Do not assume two similarly named products have the same formula without checking.
Does oily skin still need moisturizer?
The AAD includes moisturizer in its basic routine guidance even for oily skin. Choose an appropriate product rather than assuming shine means hydration care has no place. Its budget guide also recommends checking labels for products suited to your skin type.
How many steps do I need to begin?
Enough to cleanse gently, moisturize and protect exposed skin from the sun. A new serum is optional. You can expand later if you have a clear reason and can identify which product does what. You do not need a separate purchase for every concern mentioned in a marketing routine.
Should my routine change after exercise?
Sweating is one situation in which gentle cleansing may be useful, as the AAD's face-washing guidance explains. Keep technique gentle rather than adding harsh scrubbing. For a different everyday question around an active schedule, read energy drinks, caffeine and hydration. Product choices are easier to make when each one has a distinct purpose.
